... inasmuch as Morality seems unrelated to those areas. sleep

Poor societal values, no Moral Compass. surprise

i seem to be growing,
new ideas,
new senses.
Just a bit concerned,
if not for prior preparation. wink

Moral relativism Blue?

Always a slippery slope.

Personally I don't believe that actions are right or wrong on their own. I believe that it's context and intention which makes them right or wrong.

Even if you wanted to suppose that which is useful is good and that which is not useful is bad you are then forced to ask "useful for what"?

Genocide can be a useful political tool, and from the perspective of the person carrying it out I suppose it would be good -- surely no one would do anything they didn't feel was bad nor carry to length and action they felt useless. But I couldn't in good conscious say that would really be a good thing. A cynic person may say that's because humans are conditioned to see that sort of thing as contextually bad but that exactly proves my point, that my human eyes give context to it.

Therefore the perceived contextual "eyes" of each person will judge an action based on it's own agenda and who am I to weigh some cosmic universal moral judgement on a person's actions?

You see, Damon, that's not how I see it, though I know it's common thinking these days and even what might be taught. I believe your contextual way of looking is what you've been taught, maybe simply by our culture which seems to tolerate that.

To me, there IS ultimately some evil in the world (and it's my sister! no, forget that - ) there are folks who make bad choices and as they make more and more bad choices, it becomes easier to make more bad choices. Take for example, an alcoholic. It's much easier to drink the hundredth bottle of vodka than the second. It's much easier to choose to buy the cheapest nastiest rotgut because that way you can buy TWO, once you have drunk the hundred before.

Genocide is always wrong to me. To me, killing ANYONE is always wrong. I don't agree with the Death Penalty and I believe and have since I was a teenager, that WAR is evil and always wrong. I've had many arguments about this :) but if we're using this place to state what we believe, then here you are.

I would not criticise anyone else for holding the beliefs they do, but this is MY belief and it's what I live by.
