The email was received. I'm afraid I'm not able to do up a full tutorial like I'd hoped to, though. My apologies.

Here's the highlights minus the detailed hand holding I usualy do.

Since you are not sure f you can use the custom costume I'm going to do this with Maxis' pirate costume instead. You can change the offset to your custom costume if you decide to go that way.

You can look in the Simblesse Oblige Halloween Kids Costumes doorways (or the luau one done later) to see the code itself. I separated it into it's own BHAV, #4200. My code has come lines you wont need, of course, since even though all Sims could use the doorway as a doorway, only kids were dressed in costumes

You can make a new BHAV in your gift token, or import that one in and modify it.

You only need 3 lines from it.
The EP Check
    Code:
Global ( from Simulation ) Game Edition Flag Set? House Party

The "get dressed in a COSTUME" line
    Code:
Change Suit/Accessory (add id=12 from person suits)

The get dressed in this PARTICULAR costume line
    Code:
my person data Costume Trunk offset ( House Party ) Assign To: 0

Refer to http://workshop.woobsha.com/TheDrawingBoard/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=218
to see that 12= costume category and 0 = Maxis pirate costume for female adults

These 3 lines do not ensure that only a FEMALE ADULT is effected. SO if the costume is given to a man he will dress as a prisoner, a girl as Alice, and a boy as Caveman ... in other words the first costume in the Maxis Costume trunk for each of them.

If you don't like this, then a filter needs to be added (elsewhere in the file) so ONLY female adults can receive the gift in the first place
-or-
(in this BHAV) each age/gender combo is told to dress in a specific thing.

The gift token you used as a base is already set up to be ADULT ONLY (and probably triggers a jealous reaction, by the way)

Attached is a BHAV that checks gender and dresses each in Maxis' Pirate Costume for you to take a look at or import if you wish.

For female only the Gender Chanck would be changed to
Code:
my person data gender Equals? 0  [FALSE, 4]

Importing that BHAV is not enough to get it t o work, of course.

You need to tell the object to use it and WHEN.

Your gift giver is "Person A"
Your Gift Givee is "Person B"

When a gift is given the givee has a reaction to it, a good reaction or a bad one. You want them to dress in the pirate outfit as part of their good reaction.
That is BHAV #4098 "CT - Person B Good"

You wish for the pirate costume to actually be two different things

1) a gift, held in the hand - A PROP
2) clothing worn. - A COSTUME

You are using the dry cleaning bag for the first prop.
Code:
id=0 from object suits

You need to replace the gift's 2nd prop (id=1 from object suits) with the costume change by replacing the line that reads (in iffpencil)
Code:
Change Suit/Accessory (add id=1 from object suits)

Highlight that line and change the line's Function from "6" to "4200" (the BHAV number of your new costume change BHAV.)
