I want to make some tatty looking, cheap beds - but how do I grungify? Straight recolours just make them look - well, darker. Or browner, or greyer.
I know I need to put on some blobs or patches of discoloration, is there anything else I can do to make them look damaged?

I would probably make a working image of the bed (with all of the pieces put together, you'd need one for each rotation) and then find a dirt or grim texture online with a lot of variety in it. Then I would overlay it (as a separate layer) with the bed making sure it covers it entirely, cut out the excess so it's exactly the shape of the bed and then change the transparency of the dirt/grim to still allow the original to show underneath.
