I hope this is the right place for this question...and if not, I'm sorry.

I downloaded the "at home" fishing pier from Simwardrobe. I can't get it to set anywhere on any of my lots. It says "can't place on water", then when I move it back a bit it says, "must place on water tile." I've tried all combinations and every type of water I can think of, but nothing works.

I'm trying to make a "swimable" river at the back of a couple of lots and really want to include the pier.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

hi
first off the maxis one does that too. you have to make sure you have a tile of water on each side of the pier and remeber that it has to face one way....
i go through the can't place daily blush

The back end of the object must sit on land tiles while most of it hangs out over pond water tiles.

(I also have to do quite a bit of fiddling since I can never remember which tiles require what terrain.)

Boy, do I feel like a ditz! Thank you for your expert advice. Of course, it worked beautifully...once I got it in the right direction. whistle

Now, all I have to do is figure out how to make the dark water I put over the pool, the sand beach, and the shore line look right. jfade's psycho

I'll be happy to let you know if I do find anything that works well. I'm rather new to Sims, so haven't started making my own stuff yet, just learning from all you pros. The main problem I'm having is finding something I think will work, only to discover that when I lay it over another layer it disappears, completely covers the other, or just won't go at all (does that make sense?)....sort of "multi-tileing" I guess is what I'm trying to do.

Also, making the slopes down to the beach and water has given me a problem because of the gaps between the levels and the fact that I haven't found any sort of tile or ground cover that will work on the slopes. Right now I'm just sort of masking them with rocks and foliage, but I'm not really happy about it.

Now, what are "ren's saltwater tiles"? I don't think I've found them. Maybe they'll help?

Thank you! These are wonderful water tiles. I may be able to work out a combo for my river...I only wish there were different shades of blue/green, but beggers can't be choosers! wink

Now, for that sand and the slopes... biggrin

I'll post & let you know how it works out.

Monis Sims has a sand tile.

Real Super Star Sims yahoo group has a great assortment of sand rugs that will go on slopes in Beaches. Also available by asking at N99 in the POBS section.

Thank you mtaman! The water & sand tiles on Real Super Star Sims are wonderful! Very helpful. I've gotten things from Monis Sims. There are some great things there as well. I haven't figured out how to access N99, but I'm sure I will in time.

I'd love to take pics & share them, but other than the camera within the game, I don't know how to take screenies of the game to share.

My river is coming along pretty well, thanks to all the help I'm getting from all of you!

Thanks again to everone! thumbsup

N99 requires that you apply for membership, and it may be a few days before they get back to you. but it's worth the trouble.

The in-game camera is good for screenshots to post, since the compression ratio used makes pretty small file sizes for the pixel size of the pictures
