Oh no, it seems that Xtractor Plus has been temporarily discontinued.

I lost my zip of it. It is freeware. Does that mean I can ask someone for a zip of it.

I don't have a way to unzip all these new downloads into my game...that is the rar zips. XP does the winzips but not the rarzips.

Or are there other programs I can use? I only know Xtractor Plus.

Pleeeze heelp! blush

And I use the filehandler program : TOTAL Commander

http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm
wich I love and can't live without...

It does all the unzipping , unraring and thre is some more sorts of compressed archives file available as addon downloads.
One can double click on a zip file and see its content .

It also moves/ renames files , it has listed wiew or thumbnail wiew so one can actually see the little bmps - very handy when looking in the skins folder... and saved skins outside of the game.
It sort by name or date , size with one easy click.

It also has many laguages so I cna have my in Swedish or in English version- and change back and forth while the program is running.
It also is not a memory hog so I can have it open while another program runs.

I also pack my zips with this , I ftp ( upload files to the server to my webbsite), accosiate files with the right program, search for files.

The best thing is the 2 windows side by side , I have the downloads folder with zips open in the right window and then the destination folder in the left window - hightlight ( rightclick) and then either choose unpack or hit alt+F9 to unpack it , zip or rar doesnt' matter. For multi files I hold down ctrl while highlighting.

It is such a multi task filehandler that I never use the Explorer or winzip or any other program - I have all I need in one...

Does anyone know of an extraction program that will open rar files but not interfere with the XP equivalent of winzip?

At one point, I accidentally put winzip onto a computer with XP, and it overrode the XP archiving program, which I have set up just the way I like it.

Winrar says it can handle zip files, and I want something that can't.

I may end up downloading something and just putting it on a flash drive long enough to decompress some of the rar files from Euro sites.

thanks, Madoria. hug

Bruja, something I discovered recently:

when you install WinRar there are various file endings that you can pick and choose for the program to Ignore. The default settings are to include Zip files. If you make sure that the box for Zip files is unchecked during installation, WinRar will then ignore all your zip files. I had to uninstall WinRar and re-install it so that I could continue to use the Microsoft's own compression program to make zip files as I did not want those taken over by WinRar.

I have XP, and I use ExtractNow; I haven't found that there is any issue between the two. I can still make zips with WinZip, and I extract things with Extractnow. I like that one because it can do many files at once, but I left Winzip as my default and just open ExtractNow manually to use it.

That's very useful information, ruth. Thank you, I'll get on it soon.

TheIms3, I'm happier with the XP built-in compression program than I ever was with WinZip, so I don't have WinZip on my computers, since having it there disables the XP program.

You know what, I think that I was thinking that the XP built-in extractor was WinZip. I also use the default XP one, because I like it, whatever it's called. smile
