Somehow my game has creeped back up to 2.90 GB of downloads without me noticing. I usually hit the downloads ceiling somewhere over 2.93 so that is really worrying. I just spent a rare morning off going through the catalogues and seeing what I could jettison but to my horror, there isn't much. I'm now at that stage where I pretty much want everything in my downloads folder.
Would FARing the files make any difference?
If not I guess my next step is going to be reworking some the big files and seeing how I can reduce them down in size. sad

It might. When loading it considers a far file as one file no matter how many iffs are in it.

Try it out and let us know. whistle

Do you think the window version of playing is less harsh on the game or system? Mine is at 3.11GB now and still loads in 9 minutes biggrin

IMHO, playing in windows makes everything load faster and is more stable, besides. thumbsup

I feel your pain...I, too, hit my limit and was dismayed when I found that there really wasn't anything that I wanted to part with....but I did find a solution to this. It took some work and I had to reorganize everything, but its working so far!!

What I did was...I went in to each lot I have in the game and made a list of all of the downloads that I used to create the lot. I then made a folder (outside the game) for each lot and copied the .iff files for all of the objects into their folders (leaving subfiles intact where possible, so that I still new the set name and site name). I made a subfolder in the downloads section to place the things that are "required" for all the lots. Now...when I go to play my game, I usually have 2 or 3 lots that I play at once, so what I do is... I place the folder for that lot in the downloads folder. I make sure to add any new items that I will need or want to add during the game play. (Like I said...took some work) When I'm done playing my game, or find that I want to switch to a lot that I don't have loaded, I quit the game and load the lot. Since doing this has cut my load time down below 5 minutes,..its really not that much of an inconvenience. I have found that it helps load time and makes my buy mode neater and makes things easier to find. It did require that I have pictures of everything I've downloaded, so I can plan ahead a bit...but that wasn't too difficult. But I like it...and it lets me use things that I normally wouldn't have had room for. biggrin

This is so hard! It's like what books would you take to a deserted island.
I may have to try your method, Deekitty. Thanks for sharing!

Mars, I didn`t mean to stop the flow of thought with a one-panel joke. blush

I understand culling; I recently downloaded a couple thousand files and had to toss away a thousand of them. sad

Insofar as what`s needed on a home lot, wink

a Sims needs the SEDD NoFun Plant, to fill thair basic needs. thumbsup

...and if the Sim isn`t a recluse, they will want a telephone and a door. biggrin
