If you searched the database for your number and found it's not listed then, yep, go ahead and act on the assumption that your number is unused. It's not a 100% guarentee but, to be honest, there just isn't one anywhere.

Quite a lot of active object makers are members of guests here. Perhaps we should be considering starting a list ourselves.

Many of our members who aren't object makers themselves have huge collections, and would probably be willing to look through their objects to help assemble a list of known utilized Magic Cookies.

Perhaps members could check in the group to see if cookies are already registered and if not then register them for a creator if the creator is no longer active in the community.

That's a great idea, if anyone has the time to get started at it.

I've tried to get a tmog magic cookie, but for some reason it's not letting me...Keeps telling me -

An error was encountered while publishing this resource.

Error Type: DatabaseError
Error Value: sql_GetNextMagicCookie is not connected to a database

What have I done wrong, and how can I change it?

You didn't do anything wrong. That page has been like that for a few months. One of the files the site needs to spit out a magic cookie is missing/not working.

What you need to do is go to the Yahoo group (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/magiccookie/), join it, go to the database, search a 4-digit HEX number or 5-digit magic cookie number you might want, and check to see if anyone there has it. If they don't, try using it.

If anyone has a better solution, please speak up.

I just added myself (cookie EC16/60438) to their database. I'm glad to know this exists!

...how do I get a new number? I joined the Yahoo group and I don't see what to do?

A lot of my old stuff I made last computer is turning into each other in game, so I assume I need one of these direly. jfade's psycho

Go to the database (on the left side), search a 4-digit HEX number or 5-digit magic cookie number you might want, and check to see if anyone there has it. If they don't, try using it. Also, make sure to add yourself to the database per the instructions on the main page of the group:

Quote:

See Files for detailed images

DO NOT ENTER ANY SPECIAL CHARACTERS
----------------------------------------------
1. HEX CODE (Magic Cookie Converted) ONLY ENTER 4-digit HEX code. (NOT 5 Digits) Any HEX numbers larger than 4 digits will be truncated at the beginning. Therefore 14C52 would be 4C52.
The first column is the HEX code. This is really the most important thing because any conflicts with this cause clashes.
Use your Windows calculator to figure out your ID.
Open calculator: View > Scientific
Click "Dec"
Type in Lush Creations Magic Cookie
Click "Hex"
Your Magic cookie is the last 4-digits

Is your code more than 4 digits? Check your GUID in The Sims Transmogrifier: object definition. The GUID will contain a set of 8 numbers. The 4 in the middle is the ID you are putting out. ##0000## where the zeros represent your ID.

If you are still having difficulty, see our images in group files for detailed explanation of how to find your magic cookie.
2. Magic Cookie - assigned number for the Lush Creations website or self assigned. If you do not have a magic cookie, please assign one starting with zero
3. Artist - Your name or pen name
4. URL - where you hail from
5. ID(s) these are initials (if any) that you use at the beginning of your filename

For instance, here's my entry:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/magiccookie/database?query=purplewowies&submit=Search&method=reportRows&tbl=2

You only for sure need the first three fields, and you'll only really be able to fill in the first five unless you have a cookie from the T-mog website (the "original cookie" field, as far as I can tell).

But really, all you have to do is search the database for a 4 digit hex or 5 digit cookie, and if no one else is using it, try using it and add yourself to the database using the "Add Record" button at the top near the search bar.

Ok, I picked a number and added myself, now someone steer me to a how-to so I can start changing the GUID on all my old stuff from Silent Hill Sims. blush

Well, you can edit them in IFFPencil2 (or similar) by opening the OBJD resource, and changing the GUID (you'll need to know what your hex code is to do this, plus 2 sets of additional characters*). Or you can just clone them in Tmog (assuming you've inputted (is that a word?) your magic cookie already).

(*The GUID of an a custom object, with your magic cookie, is ## ^^ ^^ ##, with the 2 sets of ^^ standing in for your cookie in its hex form. The 2 sets of ## are the additional hex characters. All 4 sets of hex make up the GUID. For example, my magic cookie in hex is DF D5. A sample GUID with my cookie is AE DF D5 3C. Now please don't use my magic cookie, future readers.)

How does one input the number into one's copy of TMog?

I did all this stuff aeons ago, but that was many computers back, when I was far more active, so sorry I come off so dunderheaded. blush

You enter it (in decimal, not hex) when you clone an object.

Tmog remembers what you put in, though, so you don't have to enter it every time.

Now for whatever reason the stuff I cloned last night isn't usable in game? I see it in the buy menu, but when I select it I get the open hand instead of the closed one. I'm guessing I added the wrong part of the MC number maybe? or maybe I just have too much stuff already....

here, lemme toss an object into this thread, you can take a looksee and lemme know what's wrong w. it.
