Continued discussion from JimmyZ's thread (about front-of-camera self-pics)...

600x450, 27 KB

One of my very first pictures from my current camera, 2007-06-07. Taken in front of a mirror, then mirrored in PSP7. My objective was to take a picture of the camera, though.

1067x800, 254 KB

One of the period rooms at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (the big art museum here), 2010-07-16. Not the best light.

I'm more likely to hold the camera at arm's length when taking a self-pic. Sometimes it works ok...

800x500, 83 KB

Out for a walk, 2010-07-02.

... and sometimes it doesn't.

800x600, 76 KB

In the basement cafe at the American Swedish Institute, 2010-05-22.

Even more often, though, I'll set the camera on something or use a tripod, like I did with the pics one post up.

So I know the lake is frozen solid, but I would still be afraid to stand on it (more than just near the edge).

The museum pic is pretty good. The light wasn't strong, but the colour values are good, and so's the contrast. I like it.

I'm always a little nervous, too. Despite seeing bigger and heavier vehicles much farther out, I've never gotten up the courage to drive all the way across. (Also, I keep my window down, just in case...)

Thanks! Low-light performance is the only important thing I don't like about my camera (a Canon PowerShot A550). For many handheld indoor and night shots, I have a choice of either grainy or blurry, or sometimes both. smile (Or the harsh light and bad shadows of a flash -- not a good option in front of a mirror anyway, and usually a no-no in museums.)

You're welcome - I'm glad you like them.

Ugh. Flash. You did well, cos it's not terribly grainy.

I'm blessed with a hand-me-down Nikon D200 and a copy of Adobe Lightroom. My uncle gave me both (he was upgrading).

Some recent pics.

1067x800, 209 KB

Family August party, 2011-08-14. It was at a very yummy Italian restaurant this year, with cupcakes at Grandma's house afterward.

600x800, 125 KB KB

My dad (center) and his two brothers, with Grandma, 2011-08-14.

800x600, 106 KB

A cool old car I saw, 2011-08-23. Does the spare tire cover say Packard? The original pic wasn't quite clear enough to tell.

800x600, 139 KB

A cool old car I saw, 2011-08-23. I think the driver noticed me.
