For the longest time I thought it would be kinda cool if something other than a big yellow bus would stop to pick up my medieval school children. My first thought was maybe some kind of horse drawn cart. But then the horses legs would need to be animated as to not look a bit silly, don't want those beasts sliding in on their tippy toes. lol. Then I thought maybe the children could just walk to school instead? I know it already takes the better part of an hour just to get them to the bus. It might take them 2 hours to get all the way off the lot. It may be a bit impractical, it's just a thought.

It wouldn't be the prettiest solution but you could make the bus invisible which would reliably get them to walk to the mailbox, at least.

Ah yes, some issues are hard to ignore, but in the end I managed to ignore things like yellow schoolbusses in my medieval (or otherwise non modern) lots and games over the years laugh

But of course there is always hope!

This topic made me think of this thread: http://www.simblesseoblige.com/viewtopic.php?t=3285

Perhaps this could solve your problem?

VivianLee, those schoolbells are cute, and absolutely needed!
Thank you so much for the link thumbsup

Now, Atuhk's idea is different - sometimes parents need a break of their kiddies, and fortunately there's school laugh

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the suggestions, and the links to simlogical etc are interesting. At this point though I'm just being lazy. I thought it would be cute if the kids could just walk down the road to the nearest pedport and disappear until 3pm.

Because of how the game handles it I think it needs a car object to route the sim to.

If someone wants to replace the schoolbus object to be invisible and place itself near a pedportal it could be done (to avoid hacking the car portal)

This was my suggestion... though I had the idea of moving the carportal along with it, and I wasn't sure that was a good idea...

Does anyone know whether Scooby's car and bus replacement carriages have horses with moving legs, or are they just "sliding"?

Now that Atuhk came up with this issue, my tolerance of yellow busses and modern cars is lowered again. rolleyes

If I remember right, the horses just slide. I think I would move the car portal right to the end of the lot.

It would be possible, I think, but a bit more involved to make an invisible bus object direct them to a ped portal.

I also considered moving the carport to the edge of the lot, but that would make all the carpools show up there. I didn't like that. Also changing the bus or making it invisible would change it for all the lots. I didn't like that either, lol. That's what brought me to thinking of the kids walking to school. There are several NPCs and neighborhood sims that walk back and forth from pedport to pedport, so why couldn't a hacked object make kids walk to a pedport at 8am and then back at 3pm? It seems that some manipulation of behaviors could make it happen.

Once again, it's just a thought. This little game has been pushed in so many ways beyond its original construct. I can live with the stupid yellow bus, lol. I love this game. smile smile

Hmm... could Inge's school be used with an object that makes them leave world (and adjusts their grades) as their chair? Or is that not a feasible thing? Theoretically (from some objects I remember that may or may not have existed), this wouldn't even require placing the object by the pedportal, it would just execute a process of sending them to the pedportal. Though that does leave the problem of them getting *back*... Conceivably, the school objects would still kick them from the interactions at 3, though I don't know how, if at all, it would bring the kids back.

I also don't remember if "leave world" also boots them from the family completely, something I'm fairly sure you don't want to do! laugh

"Leave world" does boot sims from the game but there's a nearly infinite space off the lot where various other objects are located... as well as walkbys until it's time for them to walk by. I think it's safe to move a sim to the out-of-world area, as long as another object brings them back.

Yeah, I meant removing from the family, there. Now that I think about it, the object I'm remembering *I think* had the options to leave the world and to leave the world for good, one just sending them off-lot and the other (presumably) also adding them to the default family like what happens after a fight. Though I can't remember for the life of me what object I'm thinking about.
