Has anyone tried asking EA to re-release or open-source Sims 1? Alternatively, how about getting distribution rights from EA? Personally I am willing to shell out a little money to keep this awesome little game alive.

I think Sims 1 is unique in itself and does not compete with later iterations. If there is a safe place for people to get the game for free/little $, we may be able to revive the game and sustain a small but tight community.

So much of the game's code is licensed Intel libraries that it isn't just EA's decision. Not to mention that half of the music is actually licensed.
