Because I keep three versions of all my downloads (i.e. ziped, unziped and my own big far files) I regularly archive the zipped and unzipped files to CD, but now I am running low on CDs I decided to do a price comparison with a few differnt places.
The first one is a shop within walking distance (i.e. 10 minutes or so) of my house and they sell five CDs for 1, which I thought was pretty reasonable as I havn't bought any CDs since I have had this computer.
Then today less than two hours ago I went to the local PC World shop. They sold 100 CDs for 15, which when I worked it out, was a lot cheeper than the other shop.
So what did I do? smile I bought a 400GB external hard drive for 85 whistle
So is that clever or stupid?? dry

clap I hope it was clever because I did the same a few months back. Best investment I ever made!

Better yet, backups are a breeze. Just copy and paste,- no nonsense! And just plugging and unplugging a cable makes moving things from one computer to another easier too.

I remember a few years ago hearing about someone in our community who had their house broken into and computer stolen...but... the thief left the external hard drive with the backed up files so not all was lost.

Yep, my external hard drive was the best Sim-related purchase I ever made. Very clever indeed! thumbsup

The only thing is that because it cost so much I was unable to buy the print cartidges that I had originally gone for blush So it is a good thing that I don't have anything to print at the moment.

I remember when Mars got the back up drive. I wanted to do that too and asked the giant for one. Being the hard headed love of my life wub he didn't think it was necessary no

Oh the goof, remember everyone how my OS died and I had to reinstall and save everything jfade's psycho

Okay now he looks online and finds them cheaper. So I feel my next best offer to calm and peace with HIM is to get me one down the road whistle

floorlaugh Oh the joys of life are so worth the time and effort

Back up the game on another drive or CD's or best yet DVD's yes

I'm a huge fan of external hard drives for back-ups. I like the fact that when I'm going on a trip, I can back up a hundred gigs or more of current files from my desktop, so that I don't have to try to preload the laptop with what I might need, because it's all there on the external, and I can move just the files I want to the laptop as I need them.

Thanks for reminding me! I've got about 6 months before I absolutely have to go get a new toner cartridge for my laser printer. (I don't see why people go for those cheapo inkjet printers. They end up costing way more in the long run than decent old laser printers.)

I've been looking at hard drive prices, and if they continue to drop, I'm going to end up getting 6 or so 300 gig ones in a year or so. That's provided I can get my pci bus card to work. If I'm lucky, the price will be around .10 cents a gigabyte then. it sure beats cd costs in the long run :D
