I was browsing through my TSO files today and decided to extract all of the skins from the game so I could use them for The Sims. However, I soon found out that they are all in 24-bit format. I have Gimp, and was wondering if there was a script-fu script or something to that effect that would automatically convert them all to 256-color bitmaps?

If there's a better way, I'd be happy to send you any files (I can send either the .DAT straight from the TSO files, or the .BMPs)

In addition, if anyone could enlighten me on what I could use to import the TSO .mesh files so I could convert them to .skn (or some standard format), it would be much appreciated. notworthy

Don't know about Gimp but I can certainly batch convert in Photoshop.
Wonder if I have still got the TSO files somewhere?

Somewhere here is a thread about TSO stuff. There are two links inside to a side and (I think) a group. Those two already have converted parts of the skins. So you don't need to do all ;)

If you'd be willing to, I've got everything still, so if you want me to send the dat file (if you've got Game Extractor or something similar) or the bitmaps in sets, I could do that. smile

Yep, I've already seen a few places, but I don't think anyone's done them *all*, because I'm the only one here that's crazy enough to do it whistle

Well, if it isn't reinventing the wheel, send me the bmps. But yes you should check - I thought I saw the whole lot extracted on some Yahoo group.
Do the meshes come within the same file?

I'll check around again, I've only found a few select ones.
I have the meshes, but they are all in .mesh format, and I can't find anything to open them jfade's psycho

OK converting them now... they look like standard mesh numbers. What I need is to confirm that all these meshes are in the base game, and if not, with which EP they come in with so that we can tell people...

Does anyone know how to find out this information? I know there are listings of objects per EP, but are there listings of skin meshes per EP?

No listing per ep but listing per number...

http://home.comcast.net/~simsherry/index.html
Scroll down to bottom : Rescources
then Maxis Head meshes / maxis Body meshes...

Hm... didn't someone have some TSO skins

Atelier Quebec ?!

http://pages.infinit.net/origami/Atelier_Quebec/home.html
under downloads / Skins /TSO convertion and then each bodytype

Atelier Quebec seems to have some of the skins. But not all. I looked at Fafat and there are only three there? Oddsim has a lot of objects and five skins only.

B000 is the TSO nude meshes. Wonder if I can substitute the normal nude mesh...

Jack WolfSim has a list showing most of the meshes by EP.
I will get FARout tomorrow and see if I can figure out the ones I can't see here.

Otherwise will need a tool to convert .mesh files.

Hi guys

I have uploaded some TSO head meshes and textures (and a couple of body meshes that we didn't put on Atelier Quebec).

smile

I converted the decompressed mesh files to SKN files with a homemade utility - I'm not aware of any downloadable program that can do the same job. If there are other TSO meshes that you would like converted, let me know.

It's kinda ambitious, but I'd eventually like to have all of the mesh files converted. jfade's psycho

Several bodies have already been done. Peter has them at his site:

If you could, I'd love the b207 mesh (i.e. the chef mesh I'm trying to incorporate into the new update w/ the custom podium for my Nate's Lunchatorium download)

yes... Peter, when you say home-made utility - is it sharable? would you be willing to let some of us have a pick at it? There do seem to be many of the TSO skins that don't fit standard Maxis meshes, so this could be a large-ish project, and I don't want to reinvent the wheel if it's already been done.
