These are simple enough to get you started. Once you get your feet wet, who knows what you'll create!

It doesn't matter what graphics program you use, because these are general enough that you can use any of them.

And for those of you looking for a free graphics program, try The Gimp at http://www.gimp.org/ - it's similar to Paint Shop Pro.

A tutorial for using automatic skins-creating program from Maxis, Sims Creator was also mentioned in the Introductions thread

Sims Creator is only available with the "collection" versions of the games (The Deluxes and Complete Collection) They are a "package deal".

The SimAccents tutorials on skinning and meshing are certainly worth reading:

Edit April 2008: this site is now closed

We've added something over in Novice's Nook -

I was just pokin' about at The Sims1 Depot and there's a really great Simpose Tutorial there. This is not a tutorial on making animations with simpose it's a tutorial for USING Simpose, introducing you to all of the features and settings with a slant is toward taking great screenshots.

I just came across another tutorial site. There's a tutorial on making a simole skin, and one on changing meshes in Bodywarp.

Here's a link to a basic tutorial on using important features of Milkshape for meshing.

http://www.psionic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tutorials/lowpoly/mbasics.html

And this link is to a tutorial on using Milkshape for TS1 meshes:

http://www.angelfire.com/magic/bastdawn_fantasysims/BastDawn_MS_tutorial.html

This is a link to a thread at TSR where Dr Pixel gives a mini-tutorial on Texture mapping in Milkshape. It's in the TS2 area, so it might be new to a lot of TS1 skinners and meshers.

I'm going to give this link to a TSR thread about meshing for TS2 at TSR. I've already given most of the useful links from it in my previous post, but the thread itself has some useful bits of information for people who have been using Milkshape.
