I want to put items that would generally belong on away lots on a residental lot. Like the ice cream vendor and food vendor and the roller coaster - to name a few!! (Tall order - huh?)

I know I've seen the how-to somewhere among these thousands of posts, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Please refresh my memory (as it gets foggier every year)!!

Go to the Sims resource and then go to programs. They have a program on there called The Sims Categorizer.. It's free ,you just have to be logged in to download it. Put it in your downloads folder and then move it to your desk top for easy access. It enables you to put whatever Items you want on any community or residential lot. Hope that helps. smile

Dee4me,

That's not the problem!! You can put most anything on a residental lot, but it won't necessarialy stay put or work either.

There's flags in the Iff that need to be changed, but I don't remember which ones. laugh

Are you the same Dee4me that requested the wooden sweeping stairs in a Dark cherry?

If so; then go check your Yahoo mail - surprise!!

Hi mdamlady and Dee4me smile

I think we still need to make the NPC .iff files flagged for residential lot too...

Maybe you can learn something from those popcorn vendor from MM. It has an NPC in Magic Town but when at home it's self-service. That's the only Maxis-food vendor available for residential lot.

Another place to check for EP flags is in the Init BHAV (can't remember if this was covered in the original post or not). Those are the ones usually responsible for an object disappearing the moment you go into Live mode.

What should those flags be set to?

What should I do - it wasn't covered in the original post?

I'm not sure why I was thinking of EPs here (possibly thinking of something else in the original post). However, you might find something about the lot there, too.

Basically, you want to look for lines that say things like "Is this a Downtown lot?" These are the game's checkpoints, and since you don't want it to stop you from using the object at home, you want to get rid of them. To do so, you first have to route around them.

Let's say you see something like this:

0: ... (1, 7)
1: Is Lot Downtown Lot? (2, Error)
2: ... (3, Error)

First thing you need to do is to change where Line 0 points. You want it to skip Line 1 entirely, so change the True return (the first number in parentheses) to match Line 1's. Like so:

0: ... (2, 7)
1: Is Lot Downtown Lot? (2, Error)
2: ... (3, Error)

Now Line 0 skips directly to Line 2, and never touches Line 1 at all. Line 1 can now be safely deleted.

If it won't let you delete Line 1, that means something else is pointing back to Line 1 elsewhere in the BHAV. Look for it, and do the same thing you did to Line 0. Once you can delete Line 1, you've succeeded.

You do have to be careful to pay attention to each case. For example, you might find an object with the line "Is Lot Residential Lot?" This is especially true of something that's available to downtown, Vacation Island, Studio Town - basically everywhere *but* residential lots. If that's the case, the line you want to go to may be in the False return (the second number in my parentheses); the True return most likely contains "Error", which will cause the object not to show like it should.

Phew! I think that covers Lot checks in the Init BHAV. Feel free to toss back any questions you have.

well, tried the first object and here's what it shows:

I believe (?) I got the first part of the explanation, but the second..............

Everything I want to change is either a food court item or something that's used on a vacation lot and I have no "error"

Now what do I do?

You need to change the True line from 2 to 3 for Line 4.

The 2 means go Line 2 which says "Remove Object Instance(Me)" and bye-bye object. By putting 3, it goes to Line 3 which says idle which is what it would do on a non-Residential lot because the object thinks it is on a non-Residential lot.

Translating BHAV into English:

Quote:
Line 0: Wait a long time. When you're done waiting, go to Line 1.

Line 1: Is Vacation installed? If so, go to Line 4. If not, go to Line 2.

so we go to line 4...

Line 4: Are we on a residential lot? If so, go to line 2. If not, go to line 3.

back to line 2...

Line 2: Make this object disappear. Then go to line 3. (Which is irrelevant since the item won't be there any more.)

Line 3: Wait again. Then go back to line 3 (which means waiting again)

Basically, this code means that the object will disappear if 1) you don't have Vacation installed, and 2) you're on a residential lot. You don't want it to be nosy as to whether it's on a residential lot or not, so we need to get rid of that line. To do that:

1. Highlight Line 1. On the right side, there's a box labeled True Line. Change that box from 4 to 3. This will take Line 4 out of the loop, so we can get rid of it.
2. Right-click Line 4 and choose Delete.

Save and test. It should work fine.
