I just have not any idea how to care for a baby dog.. I guess it is what I have that overwhelms me... I did find at the store a pad you show to let him use it instead of the floor.. :-)

I took a shower and brought him with me.. He has runny poop and has it all over the deck.. So I washed him and cleaned me.. Got out and rubbed him in a towel to dry him some.. :-)

To keep him in the home without pee and poop in the home.. I have in the front door an area.. So I put up the baby gate and let him be in there with the sheet all over the tile so if he has any problems.. It won't be all over the tiles.

Aww! Puppies are wonderful. His tummy will settle down soon, I'm sure; moving is unsettling for them.

I'm very happy for you. He'll be great company.

Patty,

Your puppy is really cute. His breed is spelled "schnauzer." I have a lot of experience with dogs, and I can tell you that he will be housebroken when going to the bathroom outside is all he does. Another words, you need to keep him from ever going in the house, not just pen him up to limit where in the house he goes. If he goes in the house at all, he will not understand that he is only supposed to do it outside. Get him on a schedule. Take him out first thing in the morning, then every 2 or 3 hours. Dogs like to go in the same places all the time, so if he seems to have a spot in the yard where he has gone a couple of times, take him there every time you take him out. He will understand that he is there to go potty.

You should be feeding him at the same time every day, then take him out. That will keep him on a bathroom schedule. Ask your vet, but typically puppies over 10 weeks old should eat twice a day. Usually your dog food bag will say how much to feed in relation to your dog's weight. He probably has runny bowel movements because many dogs react that way when their brand of food changes. You are probably feeding him something different than the breeder did. It is important to keep feeding him the same thing once his stomach adjusts to it. Feeding him a little bit of sweet potato can help firm up his poop. It shouldn't constipate him, but there is no need to continue once things return to normal consistancy. Don't feed too close to bed time (that includes evening handouts if you & the hubby snack in front of the TV) in order to keep him from having to go during the night. Make sure he has fresh water at all times, especially since you live in a warm area of the U.S. You don't want him to dehydrate if he is panting or playing hard as puppies often do.

Good luck & have fun with the little guy!

angry I was in the bathroom and came out and saw he had pooped on the hallway carpet...

I had him out about 15 minutes ago.. why he waited to poop in the house?

I put him in his outside cage and that is where he will stay all night.. And tomorrow till my husband and son return smile

Puppies are like babies. They have to 'go' and then they 'go' immediately.

Like little kids, when you tell them to pee before getting in the car, they tell you they don't need to go, and then when you turn the street corner they suddenly have to pee. laugh

He's very cute.

laugh Yes I know how little ones have their own way of potty time...

Anyway I finally decided to try this christmas bell thing..

So far the noise scares Jake.. But every time I say it is potty time, I ring the bell :-)

I sure hope he figures it out in time and then no more potty time in the house.. thumbsup
